Little Hands, Big Emotions: The Magic of Sensory Play in English

Even before they can speak, children explore the world through their senses. They touch, taste, listen, observe, smell… This is how they understand their environment, build their thinking, and feel safe. It is also how they can begin to discover a foreign language like English, gently and naturally.

In my sessions, sensory play becomes a true language. A texture to handle, a scent to guess, a sound to match… all become opportunities to introduce simple words, short phrases, joyful exclamations. The connection between word and experience is obvious to the child, and therefore easy to remember.

These sensory moments also nurture attention, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, and curiosity. They allow each child to enter the activity at their own pace, guided by what they feel and what they are ready to experience. There is no performance expected; only the joy of being present, together, in a cocoon of discoveries.

Sensory play in English is not “learning” in the traditional sense: it is feeling, living, marveling… and gradually making one’s own a new language that also speaks to the heart.
